Time, change, and goals.

MichaelIt’s been almost a year since I wrote a post and life has a way of keeping you busy.  I’ve gone through a lot of changes both in my personal as well as my professional life.  I would say I’m not the same person I was a year ago and that isn’t a bad thing.  Over the last year I have become far more tolerant and understanding than I have been in the past.  I’ve been learning to be happier with who and where I am and less worried about where I want to be.

Having goals is obviously a good thing and it is helpful to have something driving you forward; something to drive you towards growing and improving.  It is also important that once you achieve a goal that you set a new goal for yourself and that you always focus on moving forward and not being stuck in the past or even the present.

There have been times where I’ve wanted to write a post ranting about this or that but I’ve largely not made the time for rants.  Things don’t always go the way you want them to go and that’s something which I’ve become far more tolerant.  I’m not sure if anybody finds my rants entertaining but I think I’m going to be far more selective when it comes to writing rants.

One of the biggest things I’ve been working on is being a better listener.  I’ve found that in all relationships both personal and professional that I tend to listen for a very short period and then I find myself responding, talking over them, and defending myself.  I do actually enjoy receiving criticism because I like knowing where I can improve as I don’t always see it myself but I’ve found that I don’t always do a good job of listening whether I’m being criticized or not.

It’s important to be a good listener – extremely important – and I’m working to improve this aspect of myself.

At any rate – if you do read my posts – thank you.  If there’s anything you’d like to see or know – do let me know in the comments.
